The King and the Chorus

1 Samuel 10: 1, 24-27 HCSB

“Samuel took the flask of oil, poured it out on Saul’s head, kissed him, and said, “Hasn’t the Lord anointed you ruler over His inheritance?

Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see the one the Lord has chosen? There is no one like him among the entire population.” And all the people shouted, “Long live the king! ” Samuel proclaimed to the people the rights of kingship. He wrote them on a scroll, which he placed in the presence of the Lord.

Then Samuel sent all the people away, each to his home. Saul also went to his home in Gibeah, and brave men whose hearts God had touched went with him. But some wicked men said “How can this guy save us? ” They despised him and did not bring him a gift, but Saul said nothing.

But some wicked men said, “How can this guy save us? ” They despised him and did not bring him a gift, but Saul said nothing.

1 Samuel 18:7-9 HCSB

“...As they celebrated, the women sang: Saul has killed his thousands, but David his tens of thousands. Saul was furious and resented this song. “They credited tens of thousands to David,” he complained, “but they only credited me with thousands. What more can he have but the kingdom? ”So Saul watched David jealously from that day forward.”

1 Samuel 15:13-15, 24 HCSB

'When Samuel came to him, Saul said, “May the Lord bless you. I have carried out the Lord’s instructions.” Samuel replied.  “Then what is this sound of sheep and cattle I hear?” Saul answered, “The troops brought them from the Amalekites and spared the best sheep and cattle in order to offer a sacrifice to the Lord your God, but the rest we destroyed.”

Saul answered Samuel, “I have sinned. I have transgressed the Lord ’s command and your words. Because I was afraid of the people, I obeyed them. '

1 Samuel 16:11-13, 19

“Samuel asked him, “Are these all the sons you have? ” “There is still the youngest,” he answered, “but right now he’s tending the sheep.” (Whole Message there). Samuel told Jesse, “Send for him. We won’t sit down to eat until he gets here.”

So Jesse sent for him. He had beautiful eyes and a healthy, handsome appearance. Then the Lord said, “Anoint him, for he is the one.” So Samuel took the horn of oil, anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the Lord took control of David from that day forward...

Then Saul dispatched messengers to Jesse and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.”

1 Samuel 17:13-15 HCSB

“Jesse’s three oldest sons had followed Saul to the war, and their names were Eliab, the firstborn, Abinadab, the next, and Shammah, the third, and David was the youngest. The three oldest had followed Saul, but David kept going back and forth from Saul to tend his father’s flock in Bethlehem.

1 Samuel 17:32-36 HCSB

“David said to Saul, “Don’t let anyone be discouraged by him; your servant will go and fight this Philistine! ” But Saul replied, “You can’t go fight this Philistine. You’re just a youth, and he’s been a warrior since he was young.”

David answered Saul  “Your servant has been tending his father’s sheep. Whenever a lion or a bear came and carried off a lamb from the flock, I went after it, struck it down, and rescued the lamb from its mouth. If it reared up against me, I would grab it by its fur, strike it down, and kill it. Your servant has killed lions and bears; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God.”

John 19:15 HCSB

“...they shouted, “Take Him away! Crucify Him! We have no king but Caesar!”

Luke 23:35-38 HCSB

“The people stood watching, and even the leaders kept scoffing: “He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One!”

If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself! ” An inscription was above Him: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

Mark 12:14-17 HCSB

'When they came, they said to Him, “Teacher, we know You are truthful and defer to no one, for You don’t show partiality but teach truthfully the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay, or should we not pay? ”

But knowing their hypocrisy, He said to them, “Why are you testing Me? Bring Me a denarius to look at.” So they brought one. “Whose image and inscription is this? ” He asked them. “Caesar’s,” they said. Then Jesus told them, “Give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they were amazed at Him.'
