Learning to Stand in Spiritual Warfare

Ephesians 6:10-18 (NKJV) 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand (his'-tay-mee –to remain standing because one is bowing) against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.

1. You can’t run from Satan – 1 Peter 5:8, 1 John 4:4

2. You can’t run from Yourself

a. Mind: 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 (NIV) 3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.

b. Will: Unmet needs/wishes/desires/Wants  “Sy Rogers”  -

We’ve never really learned of God’s true Character/Afraid.

We don’t exercise our right to pray in the Spirit

We think we know better than God.

John 10:10 (NIV)
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Romans 6:5-14 (NIV) 5 If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin-- 7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. 14 For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

c. Emotions:  Fear, Shame, Anger, Disgust, Sadness, Hopeless Despair

2 Peter 1:5-9 (NIV) 5 For this very reason, “make every effort” to “add” to your faith (Pistis- faith IN Christ) goodness (Moral Excellence); and to goodness, knowledge (intellect empowered by the holy spirit); 6 and to knowledge, self-control (rein in your passions); and to self-control, perseverance (endurance under adversity-without giving up or giving in); and to perseverance, godliness (reverence for God); 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness(fervent practical care for others); and to brotherly kindness, love. (Agape-Highest Good for others) 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
