The House and The Cornerstone

Ephesians 2:19-22 (NIV) "Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.  In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.  And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit."

We all need community.  The Greek word for this comes from the word “Oikos” which can be translated as “house” or often, “household” or “extended family.”  This included immediate family, other relatives that lived in the area and even the servants on their property.  People need each other and we need to be a part of a greater community.

The cornerstone of an ancient building served as an alignment stone for the foundation and ultimately, the entire structure.  The teachings of the Church and alignment of your heart should match the plumb line set by Christ’s Life.  As we individually align with the life of Jesus (the cornerstone), we can join together and rise to the house that God has intended.
