Genesis 31:53-54 - So Jacob took an oath in the name of the Fear of his father Isaac. 54 He offered a sacrifice there in the hill country and invited his relatives to a meal. After they had eaten, they spent the night there.
Genesis 30-31 tells us the story of Jacob. Jacob and Laban were at odds and a covenant between the two was struck at a meal. The key to this event wasn’t the meal, the table or the altar that they built – the key to this covenant between them was the presence of the Lord. Jacob was the continuation of God’s promise for the people of Israel. God’s presence continued God’s promise through Abraham, Isaac and now Jacob. It was Jacob’s son Israel that would be the namesake for God’s people. God’s presence again made a promise to overcome a problem.
