Fearless

Healthy Fear

Fearing God means we respect, reverence, awe, and honor God, leading us to adoration and worship.

God created us with Fear as a survival mechanism, designed to protect us from danger.  The amygdala is constantly, subconsciously surveying our surroundings to determine if they are good, bad or scary.

Fear can impact our ability to experience the abundant life Jesus came to give us. Fear can keep us from living out our purpose & from becoming the person God created us to be. Even lesser or smaller fears can keep us distracted from everyday life, preventing us from being fully present with those we love.

Joshua 1:5-9 Niv – No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. “Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

How beautiful it is that one of the most repeated promises in Scripture is “I will be with you”.

Equip to fear less

  1. Capture our thoughts.  2 Corinthians 10:5 Tells us to take every thought captive.
  2. Evaluate
  3. Cast that thought our of our minds and replace it with the Truth!  (1 John 4:18)
  4. Breathe
  5. Perceive God’s presence

2 Timothy 1:7 NIV – For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

Deuteronomy 20:3-4 NIV – He will say to them, ‘Listen to me, all you men of Israel! Do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today! Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them. For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!’

Life will not be without fear inducing moments, but we are equipped with what we need to become fearless. We have the Spirit of the Living God who raised Jesus from the dead living inside us.
