Grasshoppers or Giant Killers: A Matter of Perspective | Week 4 | Giants and Grasshoppers Series
The Grasshopper Perspective
25 When they returned from spying out the land, at the end of forty days, 26 they went on and came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, in the wilderness of Paran at Kadesh; and they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. 27 So they reported to him and said, “We came into the land where you sent us, and it certainly does flow with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.
Numbers 13:25-27
Anytime you see your assignment outside of the context of a “God sent mission” then you will treat it as unholy.
1In the same way, you wives, be subject to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won over without a word by the behavior of their wives, 2 as they observe your pure and respectful behavior.
1 Peter 3:1-2
7 You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
1 Peter 3:7
Holy living is the understanding that I am constantly on a Holy mission from God.
7 You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with [a]someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
Ephesians 2:10
27 So they reported to him and said, “We came into the land where you sent us, and it certainly does flow with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. 28 Nevertheless, the people who live in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. And indeed, we saw the descendants of Anak there! 29 Amalek is living in the land of the Negev, the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites are living in the hill country, and the Canaanites are living by the sea and by the side of the Jordan.” 30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “We should by all means go up and take possession of it, for we will certainly prevail over it.” 31 But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, because they are too strong for us.” 32 So they brought a bad report of the land which they had spied out to the sons of Israel, saying, “The land through which we have gone to spy out is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are people of great stature. 33 We also saw the Nephilim there (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”
Numbers 13:27-33
The biggest giant you face will always be your perspective.
- The first giant you have to face is the lie you believe about yourself
- The second giant you have to face is the lie you believe about your enemy
The Grasshopper Complex is a combination of facts, lies, and exaggerations.
- Fact= The situation is difficult (stronger, bigger, secured)
- Lie= The land devours its inhabitants (it actually feeds them well)
- Exaggeration= We were like grasshoppers (small but not that small)
The Giant Killers Perspective
5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces in the presence of all the assembly of the congregation of the sons of Israel. 6 And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, of those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes; 7 and they spoke to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, saying, “The land which we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. 8 If the Lord is pleased with us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us—a land which flows with milk and honey. 9 Only do not rebel against the Lord; and do not fear the people of the land, for they will be our prey. Their protection is gone from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.” 10 But all the congregation said to stone them with stones. Then the glory of the Lord appeared in the tent of meeting to all the sons of Israel.
Numbers 14:5-10
Aligning our vision with Gods vision, allows us to move from a grasshopper complex to a giant killer confidence.
33 Then they turned and went up by the way of Bashan, and Og the king of Bashan went out against them with all his people, for battle at Edrei. 34 But the Lord said to Moses, “Do not fear him, for I have handed him over to you, and all his people and his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon.” 35 So they killed him and his sons and all his people, until there was no survivor left; and they took possession of his land.
Numbers 21:33-35
9 and said to the men, “I know that the Lord has given you the land, and that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land have despaired because of you. 10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. 11 When we heard these reports, our hearts melted and no courage remained in anyone any longer because of you; for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth below.
Joshua 2:9-11
Practical Steps of a Giant Killer
- Create an atmosphere of worship.
- Pray for Gods perspective.
- Study His Word.
- Choose daily to actively trust in His promises over your problems.
- Ask Holy Spirit to guild your day and take courageous steps to do it.
Perspective will either limit you or liberate you… it’s your choice.
Words of Knowledge-
- We believe the Lord wants to heal people with left ankle pain.
- We believe the Lord wants to heal people with mid-back pain.
- We believe the Lord is removing a veil of confusion from the hearts and minds of people when they read the Word of God.
- We believe the Lord is freeing people from insomnia.
- We believe the Lord is freeing people from a spirit of rejection. Specifically, we believe this is for someone who has a pattern of being attracted to people who always pushes them away and doesn’t love you for who you are.
- We believe the Lord is breaking ungodly soul ties with someone who knows they are supposed to get away from a certain person, but something keeps pulling you back to that toxic relationship.
- We believe the Lord said that this weekend there will be an open heaven for deliverance and freedom at The Crossing and if you bring your “thing” and truly surrender it, He will break it off your life.
Words Of Encouragement:
- We believe the Lord wants to encourage people in this season to press into the Holy Spirit for confirmation and revelation. 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22 (MSG) Don’t suppress the Spirit, and don’t stifle those who have a word from the Master. On the other hand, don’t be gullible. Check out everything and keep only what’s good. Throw out anything tainted with evil.
