Belong, Believe, Become | Week 4 | We Will Series

comms   -

BIG IDEA: When we encounter Jesus, we find belonging, which leads to belief in the living water He offers, which leads to us becoming all that He designed us to be.

SCRIPTURES (NASB 2020): John 4:3-9, Hebrews 1024:25, John 4:16-18,  John 4:10-26, John 4:28-30, John 4:39

Belonging (John 4:3-9)

He left Judea and went away again to Galilee. And He had to pass through Samaria. So He *came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the parcel of land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph; and Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, tired from His journey, was just sitting by the well. It was about the sixth hour. A woman of Samaria *came to draw water. Jesus *said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away to the city to buy food. So the Samaritan woman *said to Him, “How is it that You, though You are a Jew, are asking me for a drink, though I am a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) – John 4:3-9 NASB

24 and let’s consider how to encourage one another in love and good deeds, 25 not abandoning our own meeting together, as is the habit of some people, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. – Hebrews 10:24-25 NASB

16 I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, so that He may be with you forever; 17 the Helper is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him; but you know Him because He remains with you and will be in you. 18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you. – John 14:16-18 NASB

How To Belong

  • Active Encouragement (to poke)
  • Active Engagement
  • Active Embracing (to call in for comfort)

Orphan Spirit vs Adoption

  • Orphan spirit says “Actions allow access to belonging. Belonging allows access to God’s love.”
  • Adoption – The Father says “My Love allows access to belonging. Belonging creates right actions.”

Believing (John 4:10-26)

  • Belonging is always a set up for Believing
  • Godly community is designed to:
    • (v.14) push our thinking from temporary to eternal
    • (v.24) move us from ritual to relationship
    • (v.25-26) replace concealment with revelation
  • Godly community is more than sharing knowledge, it’s digging wells.

Becoming (John 4:28-30; 39)

  • The only way to experience the thrill of a life lived on purpose is to leave your agenda at the feet of Jesus.

God never intended you to live in isolation but in transformation.

There is power in belonging to a community of believers, believing in Jesus, and becoming His servants.
