The god of Self | Week 3 | gods and lords Series

We create gods of self or the Idol of self because there is a lack of identity in who God created us to be because there is an absence of God. We have drifted from having intimacy (to know Him/ to worship Him/ to learn from Him) with God and so we’ve opened doors to worship ourselves through self gratification.

Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’” The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” ~ Genesis 3:1-5 NASB 1995

20 With the fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach will be satisfied; He will be satisfied with the product of his lips. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. ~ Proverbs 18:20-21 NASB 1995

24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind”; and it was so. 25 God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good. 26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. ~ Genesis 1:24-27 NASB 1995

There is a lack of identity because there is an absence of intimacy.

God just wants us to be… so that He can do!

Understanding the identity of man begins by knowing that we where created in the image and likeness of God. Why is this important? Because God gave us similarities in His image and in His likeness that we are trying to constantly change.

  • Personality
  • Morality
  • Spirituality
  • Rule over things

There is a lack of identity because there is an absence of intimacy.

If God created us in His image and in His likeness then tell me why do we keep tryint to altar His image?

The enemy is trying to alter the image of God!

18 “And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me,” Says the Lord Almighty. ~ 2 Corinthians 6:18 NASB 1995

He calls us sons and daughters. God wants us to know we belong to HIM! to something greater! That we have access to Him and to a Heavenly place for eternity!

There is a lack of identity because there is an absence of intimacy.

28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” ~ Genesis 1:28 NASB 1995

There is a lack of identity because there is an absence of intimacy.

The enemy has tried from the very beginning to cause division between God and his sons and daughters. Because he knows that if he can separate the relationship between the two then our identity will be altered. He doesn’t care if we know a form of God as long as we don’t know God fully!

The enemy knows that when there’s intimacy with The Father, we are then entrusted with more authority, power through sonship and dominion! In His presence is where we draw from Him our identity.

18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” 19 Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. ~ Genesis 2:18-20 NASB 1995

There is a lack of identity because there is an absence of intimacy.

21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. 22 The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” ~ Genesis 2:21-23 NASB 1995

There is a lack of identity because there is an absence of intimacy.

For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”  ~ Genesis 3:5 NASB 1995

That a what the enemy wants to do leave you naked feeling shame guilt like a people with out hope… but here comes God in the cool of the day to restore us.

They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. ~ Genesis 3:8 NASB 1995

God wants us to come out of hiding and in to His loving arms. God sent his only begotten son so that we could come out of hiding.

There is a lack of identity because there is an absence of intimacy.
