The joy set before him..
- Adding Brothers and Sisters to the family was what Jesus endured the cross for.
- 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. ~ Romans 8:15-17 NKJV
- Destroy the works of the devil
- 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. ~ 1 John 3:8 NKJV
- Set us free
- 1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. ~ Galatians 5:1 NASB 1995
Endured Crucifixion
- Jesus endured every abuse and hurt that we have gone through in the earth
- 17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted. ~ Hebrews 2:17-18 NKJV
- The Father reconciled us through the cross
- 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. ~ 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 NKJV
Shame is the prison warden of intimacy!
Despising the shame
2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ~ Hebrews 12:2 NKJV
- Shame does not want us to admit a difference in our lives and who God said we are
- Shame is the prison warden that keeps you locked into a life of less that who God says you are
- Shame keeps you from admitting I need help
- Shame keeps you from being honest with God and others
16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. ~ James 5:16 NKJV
Shame is the prison warden of intimacy!
We were not created with shame
- 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. ~ Genesis 2:25 NKJV
First sign of shame (seek to cover ourselves)
- 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. ~ Genesis 3:7 NKJV
Look at how shame works
3 For you shall expand to the right and to the left, And your descendants will inherit the nations, And make the desolate cities inhabited. 4 “Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; Neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame; For you will forget the shame of your youth, And will not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore. ~ Isaiah 54:3-4 NKJV
Shame keeps us
- Shame keeps us from growing in God and His favor
- Shame keeps us from claiming our inheritance as sons and daughters
- Shame keeps our children under the same limitations
- Shame keeps allows fear to hold us back
