Gifted For A Purpose | Week 1 | Trustworthy Series

14 “For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. Matthew 25:14 NASB 1995

15 To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey. Matthew 25:15 NASB 1995

16 Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents. 17 In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more. Matthew 25:16-17 NASB 1995

18 But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. Matthew 25:18 NASB 1995

19 “Now after a long time the master of those slaves *came and *settled accounts with them. Matthew 25:19 NASB 1995

  • 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. ~ 2 Corinthians 5:10 NASB1995
  • 12 Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. 14 If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. ~ 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 NASB1995

20 The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’ Matthew 25:20-21 NASB 1995

  • 10 Then he said to them, “Go, eat of the fat, drink of the sweet, and send portions to him who has nothing prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” ~ Nehemiah 8:10 NASB1995

22 “Also the one who had received the two talents came up and said, ‘Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have gained two more talents.’ 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’ Matthew 25:22-23 NASB 1995

24 “And the one also who had received the one talent came up and said, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed. 25 And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’ Matthew 25:24-25 NASB 1995

  1. Understanding God’s Character
    • Negative Thought: “God only wants to judge and punish me. If I try something new in ministry and fail, He’ll just be disappointed.”
    • Reality: God encourages growth and learning through both successes and failures, offering grace and guidance throughout the process.
  1. Responsibility and Stewardship
    • Negative Thought: “It’s not my fault I haven’t been more involved in the church; they don’t really make it easy to get involved.”
    • Reality: While there may be challenges, personal initiative and communication can often open new opportunities for involvement and service.
  1. Risk and Faith
    • Negative Thought: “I can’t lead a small group; what if I can’t answer everyone’s questions or it doesn’t go well? I don’t want to embarrass myself.”
    • Reality: Stepping into a leadership role is a chance to grow in faith and skills, and everyone starts somewhere. Support and learning along the way are part of the journey.
  1. Accountability and Growth
    • Negative Thought: “I’ll just stick to what I’ve always done in church; trying new ways of serving or giving might not make a difference anyway.”
    • Reality: God values faithfulness and courage in exploring new ways to contribute to His work, and even small changes can lead to significant impacts in the community and personal spiritual growth.

26 “But his master answered and said to him, ‘You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed. 27 Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest. Matthew 25:26-27 NASB 1995

28 Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.’ 29 “For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. 30 Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. ~ Matthew 25:28-30 NASB 1995
