Pure Heart | Week 2 | Blessed Series

Matthew 12:347 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. ~ Matthew 5:7-8 NASB1995

What is mercy?

34 But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” … ~ Luke 23:34a NASB1995

13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.~ . Philippians 4:13  NKJV

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. ~ Matthew 5:8 NASB1995

Heart (Greek) = “Kardeeah” = can be applied to the physical heart but also the spiritual center of life or the inner most being. It is where thoughts, desires, sense of purpose, will, understanding and character reside.

Pure (Greek) = “Katharos” = to be clean, blameless, not stained from guilt.

34 …For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. ~ Matthew 12:34b NIV

The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? 10 “I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct,     according to what their deeds deserve.” ~Jeremiah 17:9-10 NIV

1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 2 Timothy 3:1-4 NIV

The way to truly be clean, blameless and free from guilt is to give our lives (our hearts) to Jesus and ask him to do the purifying work.

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.Psalm 51:10 NIV

“Create” = (Hebrew) “Yatzar” = “to fashion or form” from something pre-existing or  “Bara” which refers to God’s creation of the cosmos.

God is the one who makes our hearts pure by the sacrifice of His Son & through his sanctifying work in our lives.

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:7-8  NIV

1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2  NIV

He wants our whole heart. That can only come from: 1) a surrendered life 2) by repenting when he reveals impurities 3) cooperating with the Holy Spirit

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.Psalm 51:10 NIV

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. ~ Matthew 5:8 NASB1995
