As children, the fear of discipline from our parents no doubt prevented some evil actions. The same should be true in our relationship with God.
Believers Fear in Discipline: Hebrews 12:10-11 says, “Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” Discipline, while it is done in love (Hebrews 12:6) It is still a fearful thing. We should fear His discipline, and therefore seek to live our lives in such a way that pleases Him. We are not to be scared of God but we should highly esteem him, honor him and respect him. Lest he overtly encourages us to do so by remembering his sovereign will through the pain of discipline.
